This week’s topic is drawing butterflies with soft pastels and coloured paper. The project is inspired by historical butterfly drawings.

Materials needed: set of 12 chalk pastels, palette knife, coloured pastel paper (12 x 16″), soft rag, eraser, small brush (for blending), black conté crayon

This week’s topic is abstract drawings of water using watercolour paint.

Materials needed: set of watercolours, #10 watercolour brush, white plastic mixing tray (white plates or white plastic lids are fin), spray bottle, blotting paper (optional), pencil, eraser, sharpener, two containers of water (to mix with paint and to clean brushes), paper towel. You will also need at least 4 sheets of 9 x 12″ watercolour sketchbook paper (each of these sheets should be cut in half for a total of 8 surfaces).

Draw by Drawing Nov 17, 10-11:30am

This week’s topic is drawing leaves with graphite pencil. The project is inspired by this time of year when so many leaves are on the ground. The focus is on drawing from observation including shading and texture-making.

Materials needed: set of 12 graphite pencils (or a range of graphite pencils B, 2B, 4B, 6B and 8B), eraser and sketchbook at least 11 x 14″, 3 or 4 leaves (look for leaves that might have insect holes in them or ones that have started to curl)
