Draw by Drawing March 8 & 10

This week’s drawing by drawing involves using the convention of perspective to create an architectural design. The focus will be on shape, line and value.
Materials: black conte crayon (2B), white conte, HB pencil, ruler, sketchbook

While the facilitator will give basic information about how to approach the project and use of the materials involved, these are not how-to-draw classes. There is not always time for individual feedback and one-on-one guidance in these 90 minute sessions, but we will do our best to accommodate people with questions.

Draw by Drawing Mar 1 & Mar 3

This week’s project is inspired by geology and striations in the earth. We will be using collage, chalk pastels and watercolour. We will do two projects: one collage & pastels and one watercolour.

Materials needed: coloured pastel paper, chalk pastels, graphite pencils, coloured pencils (if you have), watercolour set, watercolour paper, watercolour brush, scissors, glue, collage papers (these can include magazine pages, old artworks on paper, coloured papers, etc.)

Draw by Drawing, Mon Feb 22 & Wed Feb 24

This week’s project is doing line paintings of aerial landscapes (images to be provided)
Materials needed: set of watercolour paints, watercolour brush, 2 containers of water, watercolour paper sketchbook.

This week’s project: Abstract Landscape with Pastels
Materials: set of 12 chalk pastels (only chalk pastels will work for this exercise), HB pencil, ruler, plastic palette knife, eraser and cloth and pad of coloured pastel paper (all these supplies and many more are available in our Draw by Drawing Supply kit available for purchase at the school).

Draw by Drawing Mon Feb 8 & Wed Feb 10

This week’s project will involve using text as a source and drawing with graphite pencils.
Bring to class: set of graphite pencils (B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B, 9B), eraser, ruler and 10 headlines from newspapers (they can just be jotted down in a notebook).
